What limiting an audience actually means

Geoblocking restricts access using a connection’s estimated location, where the chosen service supports it. It does not know whether a visitor is a neighbor, colleague or family member.

A VPN can change the apparent location. Someone you know may travel or receive a screenshot from another person. City-level restrictions are particularly unsuitable for precise promises because connection locations can be inaccurate.

“Personal use” is a condition, not a technical shield

You can set access and usage terms. Those terms do not make files impossible to save, photograph or redistribute. A private account also cannot guarantee that material stays with approved viewers.

Measures you can combine

• Use a project identity separate from your personal profiles.
• Check filenames, metadata and identifiable background details.
• Avoid automatically reusing the same profile photo everywhere.
• Choose controlled access and publication limits suited to the project.
• Agree on a response if material appears somewhere without permission.

These steps reduce some risks without eliminating them. Faces, voices, tattoos, jewelry and recognizable locations can connect a project to a personal identity.

A public website with SEO is designed to be found. A limited-exposure strategy has a different objective. You can use a public introduction with separately controlled material, but this should be a deliberate choice.

Choose an approach you can live with

Ask yourself whether you could accept the possibility of a piece of content being seen beyond its intended audience. If not, the right choice may be not to publish that material or to choose a different project.
