Choose the light before the pose
Start near a window, with your face turned slightly toward the light. If direct sun creates harsh shadows, try a sheer curtain or move into indirect light. Turn off bulbs that add a different color to your skin.
Take a test frame. Check the eyes, skin and brightest areas. If the face is dark, adjust your position before relying on editing. An overexposed or blurred file does not automatically become a studio portrait.
A simple background helps
Remove addresses, documents, family photographs and unwanted reflections from the frame. You do not need to redecorate; moving the phone a short distance may be enough.
Stability, distance and a few repetitions
Clean the lens. Place the phone on a tripod or a stable support that will not slip. Use the timer and test the framing with an object before stepping into the picture.
- Start with the camera near the height of the area you are photographing.
- Leave space around hands and feet so the image can be cropped later.
- Make small changes to your pose and expression between frames.
- Check focus before changing your outfit or setting.
Small adjustments are easier to compare than ten completely different poses. For a short video, rehearse once without recording and listen for background noise.
Keep the originals and explain what matters
Original files retain more information than screenshots or repeatedly forwarded images. Avoid strong filters before editing and keep your own copy of the material.
Describe what you want changed: the background, lighting, color or small distractions. Also explain what should remain natural. Read about retouching versus visual transformation.
Think of the original photo as a good ingredient. Editing can bring out its qualities, but it cannot recreate everything that is missing.
